Hello and welcome to this, the introductory blog of the Rushcliffe Photographic Society. I’m not sure what form the future posts will take but hopefully it will be informative. It will cover the various activities the society embarks upon, whether that be a summary of club nights or shoot-outs. And who knows, members may wish to post their own items of interest they may wish to pass on. Let’s just say I hope it evolves over time to be an insight into this friendly and active photographic society.
As I write this first post we are in the middle of a global pandemic which has completely changed the way ours, and every other photographic society and camera club in the UK can operate. At the end of March, along with everyone else, we suspended our usual face to face meetings. But thanks to the wonders of technology we were able to, largely, complete our 2019/20 programme with the grateful cooperation of speakers and competition judges. Although we weren’t able to complete all the rounds of our annual print competition we did add rounds to our annual projected image competition. All the high scoring images can be seen on our Gallery posts.
With this technology we were able to keep our membership engaged over the summer months when we were able to have an excellent range of speakers covering a variety of subjects from stormy seas and international sports to documentary street photography and fine art. We also introduced a Non-Competition Competition which could have had the strap line of ‘No Rules Allowed’ given that there were none of our usual rules – the only real rule was that there was a limit of two images per member. As these were always very well represented the judges had it all on to finish at a reasonable time … !
We have now started our new 2020/21 season, albeit, with no face to face meeting yet but using Zoom which our members have taken to most efficiently. Our first meeting is normally at the West Bridgford Library to launch our annual exhibition hosted there but due to the current crisis this obviously has not happened. So as an alternative there is a ‘virtual’ exhibition on this website for members to showcase their work. Go over and have a look and leave a comment.
