The first meeting of our new season is usually spent at West Bridgford Library where we launch our annual exhibition. But for this year, the 2020/21 season, is a little different to say the very least. The library were not in a position, very understandably, to accommodate us and we thought we wouldn’t be able to exhibit our members images. However, we have a website – right! So why not try putting on a ‘virtual’ exhibition? Well we have so see what you think and leave a comment.
As for the welcome evening, we had a very healthy turn out for the Zoom session. Our membership seem to have embraced this platform, not only through our regular Tuesday meetings, but also through regular ‘coffee mornings’ where small groups will meet and chat about all things photography. Prior to lockdown the coffee morning would be an actual meet-up at a coffee bar in Nottingham on a Friday. These would then develop into a shoot-out at a chosen location including trips to Lincoln, Newark and other historical towns.
How could these coffee mornings be part of our welcome evening? Well, one of our members put a presentation together of his experience on these trips and days out and presented it to us.
We were given a detailed overview of the coming season including the upcoming speakers and their chosen topic. These include:
Alan Harris – ‘In Search of Charlie Curnow’
Phil Newman – ‘Judge Friendly Competition Images’
Simon Weir – ‘Beyond Visible Light’
Jane Lazenby – ‘Working With Textures’
and others.
Hopefully there will be a post after each of these speakers.
We have regular competitions throughout the season
– a Projected Digital Image (PDI) competition consisting of four rounds through the year.
– a Print competition also consisting of four rounds
– a single PDI panel and single Print panel competition
However, as this year is not a normal year where we can’t meet at our normal venue, we have suspended the print competition and replaced it with a ‘Digital Print’ competition – but there will be no prints involved … ! This individual rounds in this particular competition will have a specific theme which will add an extra challenge. Check out the ‘Overview Calendar’ on the Home page for more details.
We also had a number of members showcase some of their own images and talked about why they were special to them.
Thanks go out to all those involved in pulling this event together and a special mention to the club secretary who was the only member to give this event the pomp and ceremony it deserved and appeared in a white shirt and bow tie!
