Set up during the 2021-22 season to provide opportunities and facilities for members to develop their knowledge and skills in the use of lights (studio, flashguns and constant-light led panels) and lighting techniques, simple and advanced configurations, for various genres such as portraiture, product, still-life, table-top and macro, etc., both in large and small studio or home environments or at outdoor locations. Previous studio set-ups have included film-noir, Halloween, urban grunge and private eye detective, and the group welcomes suggestions and ideas from its members.

Members may also have the opportunity to work with both amateur and professional models.

In 2025-26 five workshops were held, three with models:

  • Medieval themed sets with model Gary Tero,
  • Nightclub themed set with models Amina Bojang & Michael Naylor,
  • Still Life & Table-top using members' own sets,
  • Introduction to Studio Lighting,
  • Ballet Dance with Sebastian Marriott-Smith.

The society has a range of studio equipment including lights (both mains powered and portable battery-powered), modifiers, stands, back-drops and wireless triggers, etc., all of which are available for members to borrow.
