Distinctions Group

The Distinctions Group is primarily, but not exclusively, for members who wish to work towards external recognition through achieving distinctions with organisations such as the Royal Photographic Society and the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. Nevertheless, the group is also aimed towards supporting and advising members as they develop and complete their own photographic goals. The meetings take the form of regular Saturday afternoon workshops in Keyworth where members are encouraged to share ideas, work in progress, successes (and failures) in a supportive co-operative environment. All members are invited to join in, even if they are not currently thinking about working towards a distinction and their support and encouragement is very much appreciated. From time to time we welcome guest visitors to chat with us about specific topics, such as up-to-date information about the requirements of the distinctions process, what external judges are looking for in competition work, individual experiences of achieving distinctions, and much more. Saturday afternoon sessions can also include a guided discussion of current interests to members such as printing, papers, re-sizing, post processing techniques, and how to respond to setbacks.
During the 2024/25 season, members of the group enjoyed considerable success in terms of acceptances to exhibitions and salons, as well as in external competitions.
