Dear <<First Name>>,

I think we were all spellbound by Stephen Elliot’s amazing demonstration of Light Painting last Tuesday. No doubt we shall be seeing Stephen again in the not too distant future. His web site is fascinating – VIEW Stephen’s WEB SITE.

SImple Lighting – November 6th (tomorrow)
Tonight is an opportunity to build on the presentation given earlier about the lighting equipment that the Society has available for its members. We shall be using two venues – the Parish Rooms as normal plus St. Peter’s Church in Tollerton. Please bring your cameras and tripods so that you can try out the various set-ups under expert guidance. Also, if you have your own lighting equipment, please bring that too so that others can see how it works.

For anyone visiting the ‘Macro’ demo that Doug is leading. If you’d like to bring a piece of jewellery to photograph or any other small object that is valuable to you, please do so. At least you’ll have a photograph of the item (for insurance or identification purposes) if it gets lost.

Full studio lighting with portrait photography (Parish Rooms)
Macro / Close-up with LED lights (St. Peter’s Church Hall)
Interior of St. Peter’s Church (LED lights)
Exterior of St. Peter’s Church (LED lights) weather permitting

At half time, you are free to swap to the different venue. Refreshments will be served at both venues.
Note start time from 7:30pm

Distinctions Group
Rushcliffe Photographic Society is setting up a new distinctions group. This has happened in the past, but, if you are now aspiring to achieve Licentiate distinction with the Royal Photographic Society or, with PAGB, this is for you. There will be support from RPS members who have already gained LRPS or above. There is a Royal Photographic Society advisory day on 18 November at Whatton Jubilee Hall, observers are allowed to attend (see the Royal PS website for details, you have to book) and this might be a good start to get an idea of what is expected. These advisory days happen on a fairly regular basis so if you miss this one, another one will follow in due course. Once a group comes together we can plan future meetings (perhaps monthly) timed to suit the group and aiming for submission in 2021 or 2022, so no pressure!
Chris Keenan

How did I edit that image? November 13th
On Tuesday November 13th we are holding a session entitled HOW DID I EDIT THAT IMAGE?. This is an opportunity for members to demonstrate the techniques they use for editing. You don’t have to be a Chris Penfold with his vast array of technical expertise, but simply to spend 5 or 10 minutes showing us something you have learnt in whatever software you use. If you need to bring in a laptop, that’s fine. Help will be on hand to connect it to the projector. So, if you are willing to help out, please speak to one of the committee or reply to this email.

We may also include a session entitled HOW SHOULD I EDIT THAT IMAGE? The idea of this is for you bring in images (on a memory stick) which you would like the experts to show how best to edit them to turn them into competition winners. So, if you wish to submit a couple of images (no more than two per member), please bring them in on your memory stick.

Newark Challenge (Nov 26th)
We are participating in the Newark Challenge on November 26th and for this we need prints from members of the society. Members are invited for an entrance fee of £3:00 including light refreshments. The venue is the Newark Showground and details of directions and car-sharing will emerge shortly.

TECHNICAL EVENING: HOW DID I EDIT THAT IMAGE?
A number of Society’s members will explain how they have edited images and will take us through their workflow process, taking us from the image recorded by the camera sensor to the finished image. There should be several different workflows using several different software packages – something for everyone – and plenty of opportunities to aske questions and to learn a few tips for your own workflows.

Reminder: Print entries for Round 1 of the Annual Print Competition (Open) should be handed in tonight.

Composition Day

The RPS committee is considering a Saturday workshop in March 2019 (possibly 23rd) which will look at aspects of composition.  The idea of looking at composition from different points of view was raised at the most recent AGM and this workshop will be in response to that. The day would comprise a morning workshop working with a local artist looking, learning and drawing perspective, and in the afternoon a photographer speaker would take us ‘beyond composition’. Before the committee can make more detailed arrangements we need to get an idea of how many members would be interested in attending such a workshop. This is important as we would need to plan an appropriate venue and also work out costings. There will be a sign-up sheet as you arrive on Tuesday evening where you can add your name to indicate interest in attending. If you won’t be at the club on Tuesday please email your interest to Chris Keenan.

Advanced Notice

Saturday, 8th June 2019 Coach outing to Warwick.

We have booked at 37 seat coach following the agreement in the committee meeting. The cost will be between £13 and £16 per person depending on whether we have 30 or 37 persons. We tend to use an initial lower number for the cost and then return some if the coach fills. We also build in a tip for the driver rather than collect on the coach. If more than 37 want to come we can upgrade to a 49 seat coach. It is much easier to move up in coaches than move down because coach companies have fewer smaller coaches than larger ones.
Please email Howard Fisher if you are interested.
